Hostel (2005): Freaky Fridays

Two college students and their Icelandic friend are having the time of their lives travelling across Europe. In Amsterdam, a young man tells them about a mysterious hostel in Slovakia, where the girls are every man’s dream.They immediately set off for this heaven, and once they arrive it seems like all the tales are true. But between the beautiful women, and the fun times, when one friend goes missing, the friends realise, some things are too good to be true.

The friends end up facing an elite hunting club that pays to murder people. Let me say, I was glad that I watched that film AFTER I visited Europe. With Quentin Tarantino as an executive produce on this feature, you can expect a real splatter fest. There’s not much plot, and just as much, if not more, boob shots than in a season of ‘Game of Thrones’. But the film is definitely enjoyable. If you’re into the typical torture-porn film or splatter fest, I highly recommend checking this film out. 8/10ย

  1. Honestly, I expected it to be even worse than what it ended up to be. True, there were definitely some very gruesome (and pretty sick) scenes, but after everything I heard about it could have been worse. (Don’t get me wrong though, it was still pretty disturbing lol). Very good and fun review ๐Ÿ˜€

      1. Haha, yeah that was a pretty insane scene indeed. But yeah it was okay. I did also like the Saw movies. Crazily enough a new installment is being worked on as we speak, so next year we will have Saw 8. (And probably after that parts 9, 10, 11…etc ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚)

    1. I reckon it’s pretty stock standard for torture-porn, but I thought the idea of having a specialised ‘club’ where rich people pay to torture people, kind of interesting (god I sound like a psychopath) but yeah it was an interesting take on the genre.

  2. I remember borrowing this from Blockbuster… (wow i feel old saying that) and not being very impressed with the movie. I found the plot like many modern ‘horror’ movies to predictable and and the shock of the torture scenes became boring for me very quickly

    1. I think I enjoyed this film because I really didn’t expect much from it. It’s so hard to find good horror films these days :/ Ooh I remember Blockbuster, I live 5 minutes away from one that was converted into a gym ;_;
